Fashion DIY

Rakiyah Flora, a second year Design Student, made some awesome Comic Book Boots for her Fashion DIY project. Students were asked to respond to this quote by upcycling an article of clothing that they don't wear anymore.

the average American tosses 82 pounds of textile waste each year, which adds up to 11 million tons of the stuff from our country alone. For the most part, these textiles aren’t biodegradable, which means they sit in landfills for at least 200 years. As a result, they release harmful gases into the air.” – The True Cost Documentary

The goal was to avoid throwing away clothes and accessories that are not worn anymore and make them into something that is not only beautiful, but marketable to their peers. Rakiyah definitely met this goal!!
